Alpha / experimental - please read

TapRelay is early software and may change or break. It controls your own Govee and Smart Life devices using personal credentials you generate yourself - a key from the Govee Home app, and an Access ID and Secret from your own Tuya IoT cloud project. Both developer APIs are licensed for personal, non-commercial use. TapRelay is free, does not resell or proxy any service, and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Govee, Tuya, Smart Life or Google. Your credentials are stored encrypted on your device only and are never sent anywhere except to Govee, Tuya, and Sensibo. Google Home is not supported in this build.

How it works

Set up once

  • Connect Govee with a personal key from the Govee Home app (Profile → Settings → Apply for API Key).
  • Or connect Smart Life with the Access ID and Secret from your own Tuya IoT cloud project.
  • Add Tag → hold a blank NFC sticker to the back of the phone.
  • Pick one light by the name it has in your own app - or several, to run them as a group.
  • Choose what the power does - Toggle, Turn On, Turn Off - and then, separately, whether it also sets a colour and a brightness. Then name it and save.

Then just tap

  • The sticker stores only an anonymous random code - no keys, no device IDs.
  • Change the light or action later in the app without re-tapping the sticker.
  • Toggle checks what the light is actually doing right now before it acts, so it stays in sync even if you changed the light somewhere else.
  • A group moves together: every light follows the same result, so half the room can’t end up out of step.
  • Groups can mix Govee and Smart Life lights on one sticker.
  • One sticker can set a whole room to an exact look - a colour and a brightness at once. Lights that can’t do colour are told to you up front and counted honestly in the result.
  • Instant haptic and an on-screen confirmation; the light follows in under a second.

TapRelay talks to your Govee and Tuya devices with developer keys you generate yourself, and those APIs are licensed for personal, non-commercial use. Charging for access to them would not fit that, so every feature is simply free.

Download the APK

Download TapRelay v0.6.19 to an Android phone with NFC.

Allow the install

When Android asks, choose Settings → Allow from this source, then open the file.

Open TapRelay

Connect Govee, then add your first tag. NFC must be on, and the screen on and unlocked, to scan.

Band link that heals itself

  • Xiaomi Smart Band 9: the band link recovers by itself after Notify restarts, Bluetooth drops and app restarts - no reopening TapRelay.
  • Band app 1.13.7: taps and toggles reach the phone again (a failing screen redraw stopped them being sent).
  • Heart rate on the band from Notify for Xiaomi, and live heart rate back in LastDose and on the always-on face.
  • One-tap notification when Notify is not connected to the band after a phone reboot.
