TapRelay · Hardware guide

The tags that work.
Bought straight from the makers.

ARBH Labs does not sell NFC hardware. TapRelay works with any standard NDEF tag, and the specialist suppliers below already make excellent ones - sold under their own brand, with their own warranty and support. This page tells you which specification to buy and why, then sends you to them. Nothing here is exclusive to us, and nothing needs to be.

What to buy, by surface

Three specifications cover almost every use. Prices and stock are the supplier's own - we take no cut and hold no inventory, so check their page for current pricing.

Walls, wood, glass, plastic

NTAG213 sticker, 22-25 mm round

The default. 144 bytes of usable memory is far more than a TapRelay tag needs - the tag only ever holds a short anonymous ID. Rated for 100,000+ rewrites. Use these on bedside tables, desks, light switches, door frames and monitors.

Anti-metal (ferrite-shielded) NTAG213

A standard sticker will not read on metal - the eddy currents in the metal absorb the magnetic field. Anti-metal tags carry a ferrite layer that redirects the field outward. If you plan to tag anything with a metal surface behind it, buy these instead; it is the single most common reason a tag “doesn’t work.”

Industrial IP66/IP68 disc or cable-tie tag

Sealed ABS or epoxy housings survive weather, washing and temperature swings that peel an adhesive sticker within a season. Worth the extra cost anywhere the tag lives outside or gets handled daily.

Where to order from, depending on where you are If you are in the EU, order from an EU supplier such as Shop NFC in Italy. Ordering the same tags from the UK now means import VAT plus a €3 flat customs charge per consignment introduced on 1 July 2026, plus whatever the carrier adds for handling - which on a €15 order can approach the price of the goods. If you are in the UK, the reverse applies and NFC Tagify or Seritag will be cheaper and faster.
Why we don’t sell these ourselves Selling electronics into Germany makes the seller a Hersteller under the Elektro- und Elektronikgerätegesetz, with registration, take-back and reporting duties that a one-person software company has no business carrying for a €15 pack of stickers. The specialists above already do all of that properly. You get their warranty and their support, and we stay focused on the app.

Hardware FAQ

Why do I need Anti-Metal tags?

Standard NFC stickers use electromagnetic induction. When placed directly against metal (like an aluminum desk lamp, a refrigerator door, or a PC case), the metal eddy currents absorb the magnetic field, preventing your phone from reading the tag. Anti-Metal tags incorporate a specialized ferrite sheet that directs the magnetic field outward, ensuring crisp 1-tap triggering.

Does the tag store my smart-home credentials?

Never. TapRelay uses a zero-knowledge hardware design. The physical tag only holds a cryptographically random, anonymous ID. All mappings, smart home API keys, device IDs, and routines stay encrypted in your phone's Android KeyStore. Anyone scanning your tag with another phone only sees an anonymous string.
